about

Track 4 from The Driftwood Project, a five-track EP released one track at a time throughout 2021

lyrics

Our Journey was already well underway
Before we took flight
And The Land Between Rivers would be the runway
No landing strip in sight
No strangers to struggle or strife in our day
We’d seen it before
But any such things would be nought to compare
We were yet to see more

Could it be that The Land Between Rivers
Was the cradle of what we’d become
But the grave of what we ought to be?

A creature of language, no other exists
Of which we’re aware
But when at last put on paper, the fruits of our words
Would truly come to bare
With our thoughts on a page and a plough in the field
The seeds would be sewn
For history as we know it to begin
And for land to be owned

Could it be that The Land Between Rivers
Was the cradle of what we’d become
But the grave of what we ought to be?

Euphrates to the south, the Tigris to the North
A star chart in one hand and the other a sword
And so it would be...

We filled up our granaries, emptied the Earth
We’d nations to build
With armies to feed and a world to divide
And a fate to fulfil
From Babylon, Sumer, Sargon of Akkad
A trend would arise
With genocide as much as distant galaxies
Reflected in our eyes

Could it be that The Land Between Rivers
Was the cradle of what we’d become
But the grave of what we ought to be?
Could it be that The Land Between Rivers
Was the cradle of what we’d become
But the grave of what we ought to be?
