Entropy
03:35
|
|||
Every castle made of sand
And every picture drawn by hand
And every maker of all that was ever made
Every heart was ever broken
In every language ever spoken
And all yet still to be awoken to this world
[Chorus]
Threads of our reality
Woven in this tapestry
For all it’s intricacies
Will all in time succumb to entropy
Every deity ever died for
And every cause yet still to fight for
And everything we’ve learned and what we’ve come to be
Every society that’s been and all the tragedy they’ve seen
And every culture and invention yet to be
[Chorus]
Just a note of dust suspended in a sunbeam
A pale blue dot holds all we’ve ever known
And through the musings of our origins and why
The universe itself has come to know
x2
That every animal and flora
and every planet’s bright aurora
All the life was every lived on every world
Was only ever gonna be a fleeting blink of history
Of which I’m glad I’ve laid my humble eyes upon
[Chorus]
Easy enough for some to see
It isn’t enough for some to be
In this mere reality
For all it’s intricacies
Will all in time succumb to entropy

Anywhere but Here
03:16
|
|||
On approach of a new skyline
Unfamiliar to my eyes
But it's greyness it belies what is in store
For a group of hardly men at all
Un-sober and so free
In such a place to be
The very most of who we can be for tonight
[Chorus]
All I want to be is there or anywhere
Anywhere but here
Strangers and myself and those are dearest to me
Moments most sincere
Where the humid air reminds me that
I'm so far from my home
For no reason but to roam and be alive
And a story like no other has
Made every place to be
What it's become for us to see
In this ever growing tree the human tale
[Chorus]
To be anywhere but here
To be anywhere at all
To be on a square I've never seen
In a bar I've never been
Ordering a drink in a language I don't speak
That would mean the world to me
That would mean the world to me
Just anywhere at all that isn't here
[Chorus]

Penny Sweets
05:05
|
|||
Spending all our money on penny sweets
And living only for today
I’m sure we’ve been here since but the wallpaper was different
A darker shade of blue
When all we’d need to know
Was how to grow a driftwood tree
And live easy and be free
Crossing borders all through the night on board a sleeper
With no time at which to arrive
The engine’s down and it might be hours before they’ll fix it
But anyway we’ll be
In some new place tomorrow
Which is why we came to be
In this place at least to see
Strolling home in the early hours of a tomorrow
And meanwhile swaying to and fro
The ghostly calm of a dense built street that lies this empty
As the city draws its breath
When all we’d need
All we’d need to know
Was how to plant a driftwood tree
Sit back and watch it grow
All that’s real and means a thing is what surrounds me now
Those most precious moments were the ones where this I’ve found
All that’s real and means a thing is what surrounds me now
Those most precious moments were the ones where this I’ve found

The Land Between Rivers
05:04
|
|||
Our Journey was already well underway
Before we took flight
And The Land Between Rivers would be the runway
No landing strip in sight
No strangers to struggle or strife in our day
We’d seen it before
But any such things would be nought to compare
We were yet to see more
Could it be that The Land Between Rivers
Was the cradle of what we’d become
But the grave of what we ought to be?
A creature of language, no other exists
Of which we’re aware
But when at last put on paper, the fruits of our words
Would truly come to bare
With our thoughts on a page and a plough in the field
The seeds would be sewn
For history as we know it to begin
And for land to be owned
Could it be that The Land Between Rivers
Was the cradle of what we’d become
But the grave of what we ought to be?
Euphrates to the south, the Tigris to the North
A star chart in one hand and the other a sword
And so it would be...
We filled up our granaries, emptied the Earth
We’d nations to build
With armies to feed and a world to divide
And a fate to fulfil
From Babylon, Sumer, Sargon of Akkad
A trend would arise
With genocide as much as distant galaxies
Reflected in our eyes
Could it be that The Land Between Rivers
Was the cradle of what we’d become
But the grave of what we ought to be?
Could it be that The Land Between Rivers
Was the cradle of what we’d become
But the grave of what we ought to be?

Only a Lifetime
05:01
|
|||
Once upon a time this place
Was very different to today
And so tomorrow we won’t recognise
Our home in many ways
I think destiny’s a cop out of responsibility
It seems that apathy will always be
Our greatest enemy
The present echoes of tobacco fields
Forgotten but still heard
The voice of money of which men who rule
Still hang on every word
The worthy struggle of a suffragette
The planet to inspire
We’re finding it too easy to forget
What’s hanging on a wire
What takes so many lifetimes to show
Takes barely a lifetime to know
It takes only a lifetime to grow
That which once united us to be
More than just an animal
All invested in the same belief
No matter how intangible
So too our modern modes of unity
World Wide Web of instancy
Could yet come to set us all apart
Powerless in ecstasy
What takes so many lifetimes to show
Takes barely a lifetime to know
It takes only a lifetime to grow
In a world built on yesterdays
Some hard to recall
We’ve to look upon our open wounds
If they’re to heal at all
I find it hard to see when I hear
Anyone say
This bird can fly some other day
What takes so many lifetimes to show
Takes barely a lifetime to know
It takes only a lifetime to grow
